Economic Fallacy
From The Most Violent Dictionary
The unquestioned assumption, in broad terms, that:
- Human happiness is congruent with money, or
- The more money you have, the happier you are, or
- People get sad and despondent when they get less money
- That's why they naturally turn violent (black version).
- That's why they get addicted / overdose / suicide (white version).
___
It's a fallacy because so many of the factors which affect violence, addiction and suicide are not strictly economic factors. It's a fallacy fully embraced in more internet essays than I can be bothered to look up.
Americans are good at getting by with less, at adjusting to tough times.
